Rooiels boat club

The Rooiels Boat Club (REBC) is a community organisation which supports safe, responsible access to the sea for small craft users in Rooiels.

The Rooiels Coastal Slipway is registered as a public launching site in terms of the Integrated Coastal Management Act 24 of 2008. The Act confers responsibility for managing the slipway on the Overstrand Municipality, which has appointed the Rooiels Boat Club as the managing agent.

The REBC has a constitution and is registered with SARS. A committee of volunteers is elected by its members which is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the club. It coordinates the shared use of the slipway, promotes good seamanship and a respectful boating culture that recognises Rooiels’s unique coastal and environmental context.

The club brings together residents and regular users of the slipway to manage practical matters, represent the interests of boat users, foster community spirit, and work constructively with authorities and neighbouring organisations to ensure continued access to the sea.

What we do

🛶 We are responsible for operating the slipway

We manage and maintain coastal access to the slipway and its facilities, ensuring that the launch and retrieval of sea craft takes place effectively and efficiently.

🤝 We represent the boating community

We provide a collective voice for the boating community when engaging with the Rooiels community, all users, the Overstrand Municipality and others on matters-boating.  We are a proud and avid member and supporter of the NSRI, both financially and operationally, with its commitment to drowning prevention.

⚓ We promote safety and good seamanship

Through communication, guidance and peer accountability, the club encourages safe boating practices and responsible behaviour on and off the water. We help co-ordinate and support rescue organisations during emergencies. The NSRI has publicly acknowledged that members of our club have saved lives.

🏘️ We bring the village together

The Boat Club is key to keeping some of the village’s most treasured traditions alive, such as the annual Boat Club Kreef Competition and braai, and publication of the annual village magazine “The Breeze”. In addition, the Boat Club generously supports other village and local organisations with donations, sponsorship, input and advice.
