Nature
In Rooiels nature is an integral part of everyday life. From the endemic fynbos that covers the landscape to the birds, mammals, insects, amphibians, fish and sea creatures which make this their home, we are lucky to be able to share this increasingly rare environment where indigenous species flourish and are valued for themselves.
Within a compact area of just over one square kilometre, we have mountains, coastline, ocean, a pristine river and estuary, reefs below the waterline and unpolluted dark skies overhead – an extraordinary concentration of natural systems in one small village.
Read on to see how nature thrives here, how you play a part, and why it matters more than ever.
